Choosing between a cultured marble custom shower base and a standard shower base involves considering various design preferences, customization options, cost, and installation factors. Here are some points to help you compare cultured marble custom shower bases with standard bases.

What makes a standard shower base?

All standard shower bases have an integrated curb, drywall lips a nonslip textured grip for safety purposes. Agean provides a variety of sizes in our standard bases. Click below to see the options.

Standard shower bases are often more budget-friendly than custom cultured marble options. If cost is a significant factor, a standard base might be a more economical choice.

Standard shower bases are readily available in various sizes and shapes, making them a convenient option for those who need a quick and accessible solution.

Standard bases are generally more straightforward and quicker to install than custom options. This can result in lower installation costs and less disruption during the remodeling or construction.

Custom shower bases

When deciding between the two, it's essential to weigh your priorities. If customization, a seamless appearance, and integrated features are crucial to your vision, a cultured marble custom shower base may be the right choice. A standard shower base might be preferred if cost, availability, and ease of installation are more critical factors. Consulting with a professional installer or designer can provide valuable insights based on your specific needs and preferences.

why a custom base?

Custom shower pans allow for a high degree of personalization. You can choose the materials, colors, and finishes to match your bathroom's aesthetic and personal preferences. This level of customization is often not possible with standard pans.

Integration with Design Elements

If you have specific design elements or features in mind, such as built-in benches, niches, or intricate tile patterns, a custom shower pan can seamlessly integrate these elements into the overall design.

For individuals with mobility challenges or those requiring accessible showers, custom pans can be designed with slopes and dimensions that meet specific accessibility requirements. This customization ensures a safer and more functional shower for everyone.

Complex Installations

In cases where the shower installation involves complex configurations, such as multiple angles or unusual layouts, a custom shower pan can accommodate these complexities, ensuring a successful and aesthetically pleasing installation.

Agean offers two types of custom bases:
our solid base product and our mortar base.

Solid Base
Solid Bases are 1. 1/2 inches thick and can range from 24 inches x 24 inches to 94-118 inches, center drain square or rectangle. Our Solid base provides two finish options: our standard nonslip and hexagon design. Solid bases require no mortar and will sit solidly on the subfloor.
Mortar Base
Mortar Bases are 3/4 inches thick and range from 24 x 24 to 58-118 inches. Mortar bases offer complex design capabilities and offset drains.

Custom bases offer several curb options, depending on your preferences, style, and overall bathroom design. Standard curbs are 5" tall and 4" deep. For low profile curbs, you or your contractor must cut the curb to the desired height.
